ARGH GOD John's brother came after all. D: After he said he wasn't. My mum was seriously fucked off, you can't just invite yourself round for dinner after you said you weren't coming, we had to fiddle about with place settings and portions and all sorts which OKAY isn't a massive problem at all and we would have done it happily for anybody else, but he's such a miserable rude sneering git and we just didn't want him here. :P He wrecked the day, the temperature drops about fifty degrees any time he walks into a room and he just makes everything uncomfortable. I DID TRY, I'm not a complete social retard. I can be polite, I tried to talk to him and he actually looked me up and down like he was inspecting me for any sign of worth, so I thought fuck it and put my headphones on and ignored him until everyone else came upstairs. FAMILIES, UGH. Dave aside, it wasn't so bad, though I missed Doctor Who because John's mother insisted on watching Shrek even though she owns all the DVDs. :| iplayer later. Elf on Film Four now!

Second fantardy highlight of the day, after the fic I received: I got a dead sweet comment from the person I wrote my [info]yuletide fic for. <3

Merry Christmas-ness!

We've opened our pressies. The kitties have their new toys (but haven't noticed because they're sleeping). I was up all night but finally finished my [info]sga_santa pinch-hit (yay!). I've written 50 pages of fic in the last few weeks and -- thank you Secret Santa -- the writing pump has been primed.

There's still 20 inches of snow outside. And I finally, finally have time to read fic.

On my reading list:

Cakewalk, which is Gen with slash overtones, funny, misadventure-laden, and reads like [info]cesperanza or [info]seperis wrote it.

I'm not saying they did. The last time I called one of these, I ended up eating a snow shovel covered in chocolate.

Tongues of Men and Angels, McShep, a plotty loooong fic with a nice blend of SGA and SG-1 elements. Rodney as Tok'ra? Not to be missed.

The Mute Sheppard, McShep, I can finally get back to this intimate, mesmerizing, richly textured story. It has the intimate feel of one of [info]sheafrotherdon's fics--but I have it on good authority ([info]sheafrotherdon) that it's not by her. I now have to eat a snow shovel.

And more. But that's for starters. :)


ETA: How could I have ever thought The Mute Sheppard was [info]sheafrotherdon. The slow twisting stretch of emotional turmoil is pure Auburn. *continues reading*

I got my Yuletide story and it's WONDERFUL WONDERFUL WONDERFUL <3 but now the archive seems to have crashed and nothing's loading, so comment later. I'm dead happy, though, I love it. :D The saxophone player from The Nightmare Before Christmas <3 I adore him, he was always my favourite.

Andrea who works with my mum was supposed to be over today because her family lives in Canada and she had nowhere else to go, but she's staying with some other friends instead now, and John's mum and awful brother were supposed to come too but now Dave's staying at home because he's a miserable hypochondriac. Which is good! You don't need to be in a room with him, he is so dull and so depressing. He is every bad stereotype of a taxman. They really ARE like that. Claire's away in Weymouth with James and his family and Adam's got to work from 12 cos he's a chef, so this is going to be the quietest Christmas of my life? Me, Mum, John and Rita when there's usually a houseful. I don't actually care, I still can't get enthused about it. I'm far more excited about Yuletide and angsty emo Doctor Who. ;)

My mum was in Sainsbury's for FOUR AND A HALF HOURS today because she had to do John's mum's mental Christmas shop too. PANICKED FESTIVE GLUTTONY. She forgot shampoo and teabags but brought back six camemberts. I love my family, we know how to prioritise. :D I am seriously more excited about all this cheese and chocolate than I am about anything else, it's sort of sad. I was always a massive child about Christmas but I couldn't make myself care last year for the first time in my life, and it's the same this year too. I'm going to watch Mr Hankey and AD/BC and see if I can drrrag myself into some kind of suitable mood. I need James Stewart <3

This will also help: put a tablespoon each of brown sugar and softened butter per person into a blender, plenty of cinnamon or ginger or whatever spice you like, add a shot (or more) of dark rum and a glass of hot water per person (like whiskey tumbler size), blend, and yum. It's easier to blend in big batches but you can do it by the glass, I've got a little tiny one-person smoothie blender so that works.
